What's Hot in May
Here's what's on my Hotlist this month.
1. This dress.
Designed in Paris, this dress from And Other Stories is vibrant, festive and perfect for summer parties, festivals and evenings on the beach.
2. This book.
"Evie Boyd is fourteen and desperate to be noticed. It's 1969 and everywhere the heat of a Californian summer beats down and restless, empty days stretch ahead.
Until she sees them. The girls. Hair long and uncombed, jewelry catching the sun. A scattering of young women who are everything she is not, each utterly sure and at one with everything seemingly beyond Evie’s reach. And at their centre, Suzanne, black-haired and beautiful.
Willingly, she begins to drop into their tranquilised circle, oblivious of the danger that sits so cruelly at its centre. If not for Suzanne, she might not have gone. But, intoxicated by her and the life she promises, Evie follows the girls back to the decaying ranch where they live.
Was there a warning? A sign of what was coming? Or did Evie know already that there was no way back?" (Waterstones)
3. This skincare.
This simple, two-step system contains pure Vitamin C, one of the most powerful de-ageing vitamins. From the first application, experience brighter, more radiant skin. With continued use, see transformative de-ageing results: skin that's noticeably firmer, more even-toned, smoother, with visibly diminished lines and wrinkles and a radiant, youthful glow.
4. This show.
A four-part Channel 4 psychological drama about an apparently model teenager with hidden psychological issues.
5. This exhibition.
As he approaches his 80th birthday, Hockney continues to change his style and ways of working, embracing new technologies as he goes. From his portraits and images of Los Angeles swimming pools, through to his drawings and photography, Yorkshire landscapes and most recent paintings – some of which have never been seen before in public – this exhibition shows how the roots of each new direction lay in the work that came before. A once-in-a-lifetime chance to see these unforgettable works together.
6. This perfume.
"Bibliothèque transports you into the comfort of a traditional library. The world of a peaceful meditation where time stops and all the senses get sharper. Soft and sweet notes of velvety peach and plum pierce the air, leading to the dry flowery bouquet of peony and violet with musky shades. At the very base of the composition, among the layers of leather and vanilla, a dry patchouli note appears, recalling memories of your favorite arm-chair and shabby pages of the old books under leathery covers."
