Weekend in Copenhagen

When it comes to holidays, I've got 'beach bum' written through me like a stick of rock. I crave warmth, I crave the sun and the sea and I crave lying down with a good book, sticky with sun tan lotion.
A two night stay in a city in Northern Europe at the end of January with snow forecast is about as far from that as possible but that's what we did last weekend.
We stayed in the old Latin Quarter of Copenhagen in the stylishly minimal Hotel SP34

Our room was beautiful - the emphasis on design with mid-century touches combined with stripped-back simplicity.

Attached to the hotel are two restaurants; Cock's and Cows for the best burgers in town, and Bar Moritz for tapas in the evenings and a great breakfast buffet in the morning.

Copenhagen is a small city, we were struck by how quiet the streets were on the Friday afternoon when we arrived but it has a great feel about it.

It's warm, relaxed, eclectic and forward looking and a great place for wandering the streets and chancing upon cool bars and independent shops.

We had some great meals at Huks Fluks and The Italian; enjoyed strong gin and tonics in the Drop Inn and The Greasy Spoon and particularly loved shopping in Hay, Illums Bolighus and Notre Dame. I got loads of ideas and inspiration for my shop.

We didn't go to sightsee but happened upon the Ny Carlsberg Glyptoteket (art gallery), loved the snowy view from the Vor Frelsers Kirke and of course made the obligatory trip to Nyhavn.

It was the perfect weekend getaway and I'm already planning to go back but in the summer next time and with a huge empty suitcase.
